Juknokwon (Bamboo Forest)

★★★★☆ · Forest resort · 119 Jungnogwon-ro, Damyang-eup

Juknokwon is already a very popular tourist place for Koreans but it is not yet known to foreign tourists. I didn't see a single foreigner when I visited many times. Perhaps this is because most foreigners only travel to certain areas such as Seoul, Gyeongju and Jeju island when they visit Korea. The bamboo forest called Arashiyama in Kyoto, Japan is a famous tourist place for foreigners, but I always wonder why Juknokwon, Korea's beautiful bamboo forest, is not famous to foreigners. So I am introducing it to you this time.

I visited, looked around, and took pictures not only to convey the information I got on the internet but also the feelings I got myself to you. It was a good time for me, too.

Juknokwon was a much wider and more beautiful place than I thought. It will take about 2~3 hours to take a slow look around.

Juknokwon, which features a 310,000 m² cultivated bamboo forest, was opened in March 2005. It has 8 trails with different themes, such as Unsoodaetong-gil (good luck road), Jukmagowoo-gil (bosom buddies road), and Chulhak-gil (philosopher's road) Once you've climbed up the wooden stairs at the entrance of Juknokwon, the cooling wind from the bamboo forest is there to give you a refreshing feeling. As you walk along the road, listening to the crackling sounds of bamboo leaves, you find yourself in the middle of this thick bamboo forest. You can soak up the warm sunshine pouring through green bamboo leaves during the day, and enjoy beautiful bamboo groves in the moonlight. In Juknokwon, jukrocha (jukro tea) fed by dewdrops falling from the bamboo leaves grow wild.

There are many other things to enjoy in the Juknokwon. Close to the bamboo forest, there is a hanok village with a beautiful lake. In that hanok village, there is a hanok cafe where you can rest and there are hanok houses where you can stay overnight. Information about hanok accommodation is as follows.

There are two cafes in the Juknokwon but the Juknokwon is wide so if you walk for 2~3 hours, it will make you thirsty, so I recommend bringing water or drinks.

There is an art gallery in the bamboo forest that is quite good. The bamboo ice cream sold at a cafe inside the gallery building is also worth a try. (Actually, it tastes very similar to green tea ice cream)

Lee Lee-nam media art gallery features the work of media artist Lee Lee-nam, who presents videos of beautiful Damyang bamboos and reinterpretations of famous paintings. There are also interactive media works that allow artists to participate. Lee Lee-na media art gallery is an art center where paintings meet the digital world, and people commune with nature.

I recommend this place for those who:

- like nature

- want to experience fun outdoor activities

- have a plan to travel to Jeollado Damyang
